Cycling on the Barcelona coast: rides in the Maresme

Three different ways to see the Maresme by bike, with the route and pace chosen for the people riding.

Three ways to explore the Maresme by bike

North of Barcelona, the Maresme runs between the Mediterranean and a line of wooded hills. A stay at Casa Vilá Reyes in Sant Vicenç de Montalt leaves room for a ride in either landscape, followed by lunch and an afternoon back at the house. The choice is wide: Turisme Maresme’s cycling guide brings together road, mountain bike and leisure routes. Here are three ways to find a day that feels like yours.

Road cycling: the Vallalta

Turisme Maresme includes the Vallalta within one of its road-cycling routes. Choose the route and starting point that suit the people riding, then check the current route information before setting out.

Mountain bike: Les 3 Viles and the Corredor

The 2025 Les 3 Viles map lists a circular route of 17 kilometres and 501 metres of ascent. The sports-route collection also points towards the forest landscape of Montnegre i el Corredor. Check the current route sheet, access and any restrictions before choosing a route or setting off.

A leisurely ride and time for something else

The leisure routes offer another shape to the day. Select a distance, surface and starting point that suit the people riding, with time to pause along the way. Afterwards, return to the house or make a separate stop in Caldes d’Estrac: Turisme Maresme suggests Fundació Palau as one cultural visit after cycling.

For any of these rides, use the current map to confirm the route profile, access and local restrictions, and look at the weather before leaving. Plan your own journey to the chosen start. If you need bicycles, arrange equipment, collection and availability directly with a hire operator listed in the guide. The route can then set the pace of the morning, leaving the rest of the day open.

Time together

Some days are best left open: a long table, room to take a break and the Maresme waiting beyond the garden gate.
